February/March Newsletter

Hi everyone,

Well, it’s nearly the end of February already, so it’s time for another newsletter recapping on the last month and letting you know what’s coming up in March.

It’s my birthday in March, which I never particularly enjoy, but once I get that out of the way, I am usually filled with hope as spring is on its way. When the mornings get lighter and flowers start to blossom, I always find that my mood starts to lift.

It’s about now that I start spring cleaning and decluttering and start trying to get out in the garden more. This past week, I’ve been clearing up leaves and I have started tackling my shed. It desperately needs some attention. When I’ve finished rehoming the things that we no longer use, I’d love to give it a bit of a makeover.

I am inspired by the beach huts that I saw in Shoreham a couple of years ago. I desperately miss not being able to visit the seaside at the moment, and wondered how hard it would be to turn the shed into a beach hut?

If I ordered some rope to make a beach garden rope fence, and tried to source some decking or railway sleepers, along with a few bags of pebbles, surely it couldn’t be that difficult!  I’ve already got some brightly coloured paint, a few succulent plants, and I could make some windchimes from shells and driftwood. I could create my own little beach front oasis.

What do you think? Has anyone done this? I’d love to see your results.

Blog Birthday

As well as my birthday in March, it’s Tea and Cake for the Soul’s 6th birthday! Whilst my first post wasn’t published until June, I started building the pages in March 2015. Even though my blog is very small in terms of the big guns, I’m actually quite proud of it.

It’s given me no amount of stress over the years 😂, but it’s also given me satisfaction knowing that I’ve been able to build this from scratch. Everything has been self-taught. It’s also been of comfort to me when I’ve felt useless about not being able to do so much with my current health issues. My blog has allowed me to be creative and know that my brain still functions.

It has continued to grow year on year and most of my visitors are now coming from search engines.

Sugar Free February

I was inspired to make a little bit of effort towards Sugar Free February. Whilst not going cutting it out totally like my friend Ali, I did stop eating cakes and cookies and instead rationed myself to 4 small squares of dark chocolate each day. I nibbled slowly and really savoured the taste. As a result I did lose at least 4lb so well worth doing!

I am, however, going to be blasting my Instagram account with cakes and cookies in March so do join me @teaandcakeforthesoul.

In February we watched …

We’ve watched a couple of old rom coms which have been easy going but nothing worth noting. The only film I’d recommend was Greenland, an end of the world disaster movie.

We have just finished binge watching six series of Justified on Amazon Prime. Even though it was full of bad guys, it had some wonderful characters and it’s going to be one of those programmes that I feel slightly bereft at having finished.

Hmmm, not sure what to watch next, so I’d welcome your Netflix and Prime suggestions.

In February I read …

I’ve read and reviewed quite a few more books this month, including lots of short reads! My favourites being:

* The Man I Didn’t Marry by Anna Bell

* Married at First Swipe by Claire Frost

The Legend of Lucy Harte by Emma Heatherington

* Various Valentine’s Day novellas – See my recommendations in Free Chick Lit Books

In February I reviewed …

I’m going to start publishing a few reviews on my social media of products that I’ve been using around the home and garden. This month I’ve written about Surcare laundry products. I’ve been using them for years and found that they’ve made a dramatic improvement on my asthma and eczema, so do have a read of the full reviews on Facebook and Instagram.

At this point, I will sign off and carry on with the decluttering and makeover planning. I’d love to hear what you’ve all been up to this month.

If you’d like to find out what’s happening on the blog in March, I’ve got a new post coming in a couple of days about all the March national, international and worldwide awareness days.

  1. You should absolutely be proud of everything you’re achieving with your blog. It’s good to celebrate milestones like this to see how far you’ve come and what you’ve done in that time. You’re also way, way more of a ‘tough cookie’ than I am because I could never do sugar free February, not even a partial one like you cutting out cookies and cakes. Yikes. Perish the thought!

Sounds like you’re very busy busy with the decluttering and making-over. I do enjoy a good declutter & getting super organised… problem is I seem to be doing it all the time and it never gets any better 😆 And I LOVE the idea of the beach front hut, that would be a lovely little paradise right out your own back door. Do it – I can offer zero advice whatsoever, but I want you to do it as I think you’ll love it.xx

  2. Some of the houses near us have ‘beachy’ type gardens. Rope fences, shingle, certain plants. They have boarded their houses so it’s quite a beach hut look. Just had an idea – can you imaging what our garage would look like in blue and white striped boarding? Lee wouldn’t go for it but it would be SO COOL!
