Summer Update

Hey everyone, I thought it was about time I posted a quick update to let you know what’s going on with me and what’s coming at Tea and Cake for the Soul.

You may have noticed that there have been a lot of book posts lately so I wanted to explain that and reassure you that I haven’t dropped any of my other content. More topics will be coming soon.

Health

You may know that I’ve been suffering with coccydyniafor the last two years. It has had an enormous effect on my life because I can’t sit down for very long at all.  This has meant little travel and very few gigs, especially if it means going there and back in the same day or evening. And obviously, I can’t sit to type for very long either so I have to prioritise paid work and the blog comes second.

Anyway, it’s not all bad, I’m in the system and we seem to have found a medication that is helping both my physical and mental health for now. I’ve just had another cortisone injection into my coccyx and I’m waiting to see if that has any effect. Depending on the outcome, I might be referred to rheumatology for more tests or further treatments within orthopedics.

I don’t really want to focus too much on this but I hope it explains why I’m not writing about anything that requires me to spend long periods sitting.

New posts

Recipes, Travel, Eco & Christmas

I’ve got lots of lovely new recipes to publish, some travel and eco posts, and I even have blogs in draft format for Halloween and Christmas.  It’s just a case of working through it all as and when, but I still love to write and create content.

Music

Earlier in the year, I moved all the music content over to my other website UK Psychobilly Gig Guide as it made sense to keep it all in one place.  I’ve added new interviews and quizzes in the last couple of months and there are more in the pipeline. However, the interviews take numerous hours to edit, so I have put them on the back burner for now.

After reading lots of books about the 1980s’ mod and scooter scenes, I’m still toying with publishing my own “memoirs” but that’s also something for another day.

Book Reviews & Recommendations

I’ve decided that I’m going to publish my book reviews in a different format now. I’m playing catch up on that, hence the abundance of book posts. From now on you can expect to see collections of reviews rather than individual posts about one book. Once I’ve caught up it should be easier to update. You can find all the book collections HERE.

Ooh and I’ve set up a new Bookstagram account too. Please join me over there if prefer daily book recommendations and reviews.

I hope that everyone is coping ok and that you’re enjoying the book recommendations, but if not rest assured a variety of content will hopefully resume soon.

Please head back to the homepage if you want to read some of my older posts from all the subjects that I cover here.

Take care and stay safe.

  1. Sorry to hear about the pain. Understandable that you have to put the paid work first. Most important is that you take care of yourself. Have a great weekend.

  2. Really sorry to hear about your pain; sorry if I’ve completely misunderstood, but have you ever considered using a standing desk to help you with your writing work? Just a thought.
Your upcoming blog content sounds really exciting! Looking forward to reading it. 🙂

  3. It’s great there’s a new med that’s helping physically and mentally. Fingers crossed the cortisone jab works a little magic too. I’m glad you’re staying away from news and media to some degree, it just adds another layer of stress and negativity to deal with when constantly barbarised with it all. Take your time with the blog, Jo. Paid work is priority above the blog, but you and your health comes above all else. I know what it’s like not being able to sit for long periods, or anything above 5-10 minutes, and it can be incredibly infuriating and painful. Focus on you, we’ll all still be here no matter what you post or when you post it.

  4. It’s terrible you’re still dealing with such pain after two years, Jo. Reminds me of the two I spent begging a surgeon to address my unending back pain. I hope ortho has some good tricks to try on you. Eventually you’ll arrive at the right answer, but that’s little consolation in the moment, I know. I’m glad you’re surviving lockdown well, too. Nothing in my life has really changed either, but I get the issues others are having. It took me a lot longer than a few months to adjust! I hope for everyone’s sake that we get it under control soon. Xx

    • I was in a bad way mentally with it a few months back, I just wanted to know what is causing the pain. But I am grateful that we have the NHS over here. Things take longer but it would have cost £1,000s so far if we had to pay for it. Hopefully, we will find answers before too long. We all just have to adjust to new normals in one way or another. Keep safe and wishing you the best health you can possibly have, I know you’ve suffered so much.
