An Afternoon of Tea & Cake for the Soul with Anne Cater

An Afternoon of Tea and Cake for the Soul is a regular Sunday feature that I’m running where I chat to other bloggers to find out their thoughts and experiences on all the subjects that I cover on my blog.

Today we meet up with Anne from book blog RANDOM THINGS THROUGH MY LETTERBOX.

Let’s get the important stuff out the way first. What is your favourite brand of tea and how do you take it?
Yorkshire Tea – very strong with milk. I buy bags of 600 Yorkshire teabags!

And cake? Do you have a recipe that you would like to share with us?
I’m not really a cake lover, sorry!  I prefer a pannacotta or a custard tart!

If you could have a celebrity afternoon tea, who would you invite?
Ozzy Osborne, Jon Bon Jovi, Tom Hardy and Harry Styles

What do you do to soothe or lift your soul?
Apart from reading you mean?? I love music and theatre and we try to get to as many shows as possible. I do a Yoga class every week and it’s the perfect way to unwind

Do you like crafts, upcycling or DIY?
I don’t have a creative bone in my body, sadly. I enjoy my garden, although most of my plants are in pots.

I find people love my home or garden tips, do you have any of your own that you can pass on?
I feel that a home should feel lived in. I like to be surrounded by things that I love, things that are special to me. My garden is my little oasis. I like lots of hanging ornaments and fairy lights. I scour charity shops for unusual things to put in my garden.

Where is your favourite travel destination and why?
Greece, without a doubt. I’ve visited lots of the Greek islands and I love it there. I love the people and the food and the total relaxation. My favourite spot is Arillas, a little village in North West Corfu.

What sort of books or mags do you read?
I subscribe to Good Housekeeping, a monthly magazine. I enjoy the food articles in there. I also have The Bookseller delivered every week – I do love my book news fix.
I read a wide range of genre books. I don’t really have one preferred genre, although I feature lots of crime and thrillers on my blog. I love contemporary fiction and do love to discover a great debut author.

Do you have any health tips or experiences that you would like to share?
I have some long-term health issues that have affected my life for 30 years. My advice is to never ignore a pain, you are hurting for a reason.  Be kind to yourself too and try to eat lots of vegetables.

What’s your favourite section on Tea and Cake for the Soul Anne?
Obviously the recommended reads, but I do like the travel features too.
Books and travel, along with food and boots are my favourite things.

Tell us about your blog.
Random Things Through My Letterbox is eight years old and I started it because I wanted to shout about the books that I’ve enjoyed. I don’t talk about books that I’ve not enjoyed.

I like to feature authors and have a regular My Life in Books feature where authors talk about the books that are special to them. I’m also starting a feature called A Day in the Life which will feature authors and their day to day lives. We are trying to dispel the myth that all authors are making millions of pounds and live in huge mansions!

I don’t set goals for my blog. I just want to continue to write about the books and the authors that I enjoy.

I do want to continue to organise Blog Tours for publishers and authors through Random Things Tours; it’s something that I enjoy very much.

Thanks for joining us today Anne. Your little garden looks lovely and peaceful and I love the metal sun on your wall. I love car boots for interesting things for the home and garden.

You do a great job with the Blog Tours and I’m very pleased to have taken part in a couple of them.

Why not check out some of my other guests who’ve visited for An Afternoon of Tea and Cake for the Soul:
