Today is World Post Day and I’d like to share 7 ways to celebrate and spread a little kindness along the way.
World Post Day was originally set up to bring an awareness of the services that mail delivery companies from all over the World provide to both homes and businesses. Over 150 countries take part and some use it as a time to treat their staff for good work.
Who remembers that feeling of seeing loads of post come through your letterbox on your birthday? It’s not quite the same now that it’s all texts and Facebook posts. At a time when so much of our correspondence is done electronically, let’s use today to make someone else’s day at the same time.
Here are a few ideas to start you off with 7 Ways to Celebrate World Post Day. I’d love to hear if anyone else has more ideas.
7 Ways to Celebrate World Post Day
1. Get some nice paper, a decent pen and write a love letter to your partner or loved one.
2. Send a thank you card to a parent telling them some of the lovely things you appreciate them doing for you.
3. Make a postcard from a photo that you’ve taken locally and send it to a friend or family member who doesn’t live nearby, or someone who’s moved away. Just to say hi.
4. Write a note to a friend reminding them of some of the funny memories you have together.
5. When you go to the Post Office to buy stamps take the postmaster a pack of biscuits or box of chocolates to share with the staff on their tea break.
6. Keep an eye out for your postman or post lady today and offer to make them a cup of tea or coffee.
7. Offer the use of your loo to your postman/lady and tell them it’s an ongoing offer not just for today. My husband used to be a postman and believe me it is most welcome.

I love the idea of a note to a friend about memories. In the end all that matters in life and afterwards is the memories we make and enjoy and they sustain us after loss too. So this is a lovely one. Also a very good tip about the loo for post people that I can see generating some lovely friendships too #Blogtober19

Indeed. Our postie really appreciates being able to use it when she needs it. She’s told me quite a few of us living here offer the loo and drinks. It’s nice to see there is still lots of kindness out there.

I have started using my local post office more now we live in a village and the staff are so lovely in there.
In the past I have offered the postman a towel to dry himself off on a wet day. He was so grateful. x

These are such lovely ideas!! I try to leave little treats for the mail carrier from time to time, but I haven’t thought of bringing in goodies when I buy stamps or send packages. That’s such a wonderful idea. I send stuff to pen pals throughout the year, I should hold back chocolates, cookies, scones, candy coated pretzels, etc… and take to them whenever I mail out my envelopes and boxes. Thanks for the idea!!

Wonderful and lovely post! I always say hello and I’ve offered our post lady and postman a cup of tea on several occasions, especially when the weather has been bad or hot. It’s nice to be nice to people.

Oooh I didn’t realise it was World Post Day! We don’t actually have a local post office anymore (sadly), but still really appreciate the work that they do.

Yes it’s sad that so many have closed but I guess so many things are done electronically now.

Gosh, I just saw my comment from above and realise I’ve not been to my local post office for nearly a year. I do find it difficult to get over there and the p.o. is not very big for my wheelchair, I always end up knocking something over.
I did, however, sent a note to an old friend who used to be a neighbour when we were little. After our parents had ordered us in after a day playing together, we’d each sit and write each other a little letter. I don’t see her much now but she asked me to make a blanket for her new granddaughter and when I dropped it off I included a little letter in the style we used to write each other as kids. She’s promised to share all our childhood stories and adventures with her grandchild which means such a lot to me because despite having children myself I am very unlikely to have grandchildren.

Love this post- really is my cup of tea!! Have always loved writing letters and now have more pen pals in this digital age than did prior to(yes am a dinosaur- am a 45 years young diplodocus diplo as have a long neck plus move slowly with my chronic pain ;-))- you cannot beat writing a proper old fashioned letter or receiving one! Often read or write letters with a cup of tea in hand(sometimes some gluten free cake with the tea too ;-))- my ritual! Never realised it was world post day- missed it!! Our dog barks at the postie yet when he sees him he is really a big softie ;-)!! Thank You for all your fabulous posts here! Love the digital age with communication like these, yet, the tactile sublime zenlikeness of writing and reading old fashioned letters you just cannot beat it!! Hugs from Devon, Clara 🙂
