Road Trip Feb 2015 – London – Los Angles/Orange County – San Diego – Palm Springs – Las Vegas
Tuesday (day 6)- As we’d been typically English and overdone the sun and walking the day before, we decided that this day had to be a quiet one spent in the shade and as stationary as possible. We started off in Old Town to catch a trolley bus tour taking in all the sights of San Diego. It visited lots of places we’d already been to and some new places that were on our list of things to do. I recommend taking in one of these in any city (or an open top bus tour) as they give you so much local insight and history often in a humourous way, and help you to find your bearings. It covers all the tourist areas of San Diego and you can hop on and hop off all day at any of the stops in Old Town, Gaslamp, Little Italy, USS Midway, Seaport Village, Coronado, Balboa Park, etc. You can start your tour at any point. If you’re driving I recommend starting early from Old Town (free all day parking), doing the entire tour in one go then use it to hop on and off at the places you want to visit more closely. The cheapest place to buy tickets for this tour is at the Visitors Centre in Coronado, but you can buy at any kiosk at various points before boarding the Trolley. They will also give you additional coupons/discounts for other attractions.
Old Town State Historic Park itself is a great place to visit and spend a few hours in the day or evening. Entry and parking is free all day. There are old historical buildings, museums, restaurants, live music and plenty of shops selling traditional arts and crafts, as well as an artisan street market certain days.
